The Gaming Giant Recruits Apex Legends Lead to Boost Challenged Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Change Follows Poor Response

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last autumn.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a more defined game identity.

The president stated that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to address player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Recruitment

The news follows a comparable step taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock development group.

Here is the full content from the president's memo:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative designers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re eager for that partnership to endure.”

Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last fall’s the game playtest was informative. It confirmed the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the need for a clearer brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the criticism to mind and revamped the title with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to deliver on its promise to our fans.

The trust in this project increases every day. To boost the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the incoming Director of 31st Union. After some time of talks, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.

His leadership and background in the PVP shooter genre is vast, having devoted the recent years developing and managing some of the most popular titles in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Please join me in greeting him soon. We are all looking forward to persist seeing the evolution of the game in the months to come.

The President

"Take on the competition with unique powers, challenges, and tests that shift every match. Do you safely extract with your hard-earned loot?
